5 home remedies for cracked heels

Skin Care

Oh the agony and pain that comes with cracked heels cannot be overlooked.

Caused by accumulation of dead cells, excessive dryness, exposure to harsh chemicals such as detergents and continuous friction caused by shoes, these remain the main causes of cracked feet. Over a period of time they lose their hydration and since our feet are exposed to fungus and bacteria, developing infections becomes easy.

With that said, you may choose to use over the counter medication or over the kitchen remedies that are far cheaper, safer and work 100%.

Coconut oil and baking soda

Mix two tablespoons of coconut oil with one and a half tablespoons of baking soda to make a thick paste. Apply it to the affected areas and let it sit for 30 minutes then rinse with warm water. Do this three times a week.

The two combined makes a hydrating cream with antibacterial properties that diminish bacteria, fungus and other infectious microorganisms.

Banana and avocado

To prepare, use half a ripe avocado, one ripe banana and a preferred natural oil of your choice. Mash the two together and add the oil. Apply the puree over your heels and let it sit for a few minutes then rinse.

The fatty acids and essential amino acids stimulate cell regeneration leaving the affected area feeling soft and looking healthier.

Oatmeal and honey

Due to its antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, this two combined will get rid of excessive dryness and accumulation of dead skin.

Use three tablespoons of oatmeal, two tablespoons of honey and mix. Apply and rub. For better results, cover your feet and let them sit for an hour. Rinse and repeat process at least three times a week.

Lemon, glycerin and rose water

One of the most effective natural treatments, these three ingredients combined will diminish the presence of dead cells and impurities while the hydrating properties help repair damaged skin.

Squeeze juice from one lemon, add two tablespoons of glycerin and three tablespoons of rose water and mix well.  On clean feet apply the treatment and let it stay for half an hour then rinse out.

Vaseline and sugar

To remove dead cells on the surface and stimulate regeneration of cells, mix one tablespoon of vasseline and sugar each. Create a paste and rub on the feet. Rinse with warm water after 15 minutes and do this every other night for fast results.

As you continue showing your feet some love, always finish with your favorite body lotion or preferably a natural oil for some moisture. If you’re staying indoors keep your feet tucked away in socks.
