Walk of faith: Lessons from Janet Kanini Ikua's journey in 2016

Achieving Woman
Janet Kanini is an epitome of faith

Lesson: Walk by faith and not by sight, and do not be afraid to put yourself out there if it will help others. On September 2015 Janet Kanini Ikua was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, the same condition that had killed her father. furthermore, she was told she had only six months to live and if she was very lucky a year.

"On hearing the diagnosis from my doctor I remember being confused and scared because eight years before my father had also passed on from the same condition. However, what has really helped me through this season was my community of friends, prayer warriors who lifted us up, they offered my family a support system which I will forever be grateful for," explains Janet.

Additionally, what made her come out public with her lung cancer diagnosis was because a few months earlier in April of 2015 when she had been diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and while receiving treatment she had begun sharing her experience online in order to create awareness about the condition and had seen the impact it had had.

"I decided to go public with my diagnosis and the result was overwhelming, the encouragement I received was heartfelt plus we were able to raise about Shs 5.1 million so I was able to finish treatment that had begun in India.

When you are a public figure there is pressure to put on this front like you are perfect and you have a perfect life and that's why most choose to hide it when life is not going their way, but I have come to learn that being a public figure is simply a title or position, it is not who you are because when we lose these positions we have in life, we are basic human beings like everyone else, experiencing the same challenges, joys and sorrows. I'm grateful that being a media personality helped me reach many patients and caregivers.

I am still taking maintenance drugs but I choose to walk in faith and not by sight, and to believe that I am healed to testify of God's glory for decades to come! I am also trying a lot of natural alternative therapies like juicing because God's pharmacy, is the best pharmacy ever created!" finishes Janet.
