Toothbrush is a necessary grooming item that we use to maintain healthy teeth. But don’t throw out your old brushes, as they are multipurpose beauty tools. Here are eight ways you can use your old toothbrushes.

1. Exfoliate lips – to maintain smooth, soft lips, exfoliate every morning after brushing your teeth. Apply some lip balm or petroleum jelly on your lips and use a wet brush to rub your lips. Do this until all the dry, dead skin has been removed. Moisturize your lips as usual.

2. Nail brush – if you don’t have a nail brush, use an old toothbrush to clean dirt from under your fingernails. To whiten your nails and get rid of nail polish stains, apply some whitening toothpaste on a brush, and then scrub your nails. You can also do this on your toes for whiter, shinier nails.

3. Nail art – create cool nail patterns using a brush. After applying a coat of polish on your nails, put a different color polish on a flat surface, and dab your toothbrush in it. Dot this on your nails and allow to dry before you apply a topcoat.

4. De-clump lashes – to get rid of a clumpy look after you’ve applied mascara, gently separate your lashes using an old toothbrush.

5. Beauty cleaning tool – clean your nail cutter, tweezers, combs, DIY containers and jewellery with an old brush. You can brush your gold and silver to remove dirt and give it a shine.

6. Tame eyebrows – dab a little lip balm on your brows and brush them in place with a toothbrush.

7. Multipurpose exfoliator – exfoliation will help to prevent ingrown hairs caused by shaving. In the shower before you shave, use a toothbrush with soap or a scrub to exfoliate the bikini and underarm area.

You can also use a toothbrush to exfoliate your neck and chest area, using a gentle scrub. Do this weekly to keep your skin looking youthful.

Exfoliate your elbows, knee caps, and heels, weekly to smooth them and get rid of rough spots. Use a body scrub with a little lemon, to get rid of discoloration.

8. Tame your edges - whether you are wearing braids or natural hair or a weave, you can put some gel or castor oil on the coily hair along your hairline and slick them down with a toothbrush.
