How to refine your bedtime beauty routine

Beauty

It’s easy to skimp on your beauty routine in the evening, especially after a long day. Although you may tempted to go to sleep without washing your face, following this simple routine will keep you looking at your best.

1. Brush teeth and floss

You only have one set of teeth to last your entire adulthood so take care of them. Regularly forgetting to brush and floss can lead to cavities, stained teeth and receding gums. Receding gums make you look older so make it a habit to brush and floss so you can maintain your beautiful smile.

2. Cleanse your face

Sleeping in your make-up leaves you at risk of clogged pores, which can lead to blemishes or acne. Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Gentle cleansers are the best as they do not strip away the skin’s beneficial oils leaving it dry and vulnerable to irritation. If you have an exfoliating cleanser, this is the best time to use it.

3. Moisturise

Use a hydrating night cream to moisturise and soothe your face. This will help your skin remain hydrated while you sleep, and you will wake up to healthy, radiant skin every morning.

4. Hair care

If you sleep with your hair tied, ensure it is loose as really tight hair can cause damage to your hairline. Tie your hair with a silk or satin scarf or sleep on a satin pillow case. A satin pillowcase helps your hair retain moisture and is gentler on your face.

5. Lip care

Unlike the rest of your skin, lips do not have oil glands, therefore, they require an extra dose of moisture. Buff your lips with an old toothbrush to remove any dead skin. Moisturise with lip balm or a lip cream.

6. Dry spots

Take care of your dry spots by applying a hydrating moisturiser. If you have dry heels, apply plenty of moisturiser and then wear some socks on top. Oil your elbows and knees.

7. Quality sleep

There’s a reason it is referred to as “beauty sleep”. Your skin needs time to heal and restore itself. Switch off all electronics in your room and sleep in complete darkness.
