How to make homemade facemask

Living

Homemade facemaskDo you want to instantly cleanse and nourish your skin? A facemask is what you need. Readily available items in your kitchen can nurture and pamper your skin, making it smooth and vibrant.

Avocado

This cheap, locally available treasure is packed with benefits for your skin. Many skincare products use avocado oil for its anti-ageing properties. It defends against carcinogens and other elements that can cause disharmony in our skin and moisturises for a youthful glow. It is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which is anti-inflammatory (inflammation is one of the biggest causes of ageing). Avocados increase the elasticity of the skin.

Cocoa

Although chocolate may contribute to acne, cacao or cocoa has antioxidants that reverse the ageing process. Cocoa, the raw material for chocolate, has recently been rediscovered to be one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. It is native to West African countries. If you cannot find raw cacao, use pure unsweetened cocoa powder.

Honey

Honey is an anti-bacterial agent. It opens up the pores, deeply cleanses and detoxifies, leaving the skin baby smooth. Raw, unrefined honey is incredibly antiseptic, antibiotic and antifungal.

Oats

Porridge oats are not just good for breakfast. Oatmeal naturally exfoliates the skin to remove dead skin cells, leaving it soft and smooth. Oats are a good source of many nutrients, including vitamin E, zinc, selenium, copper, iron, manganese and magnesium. Oats are a good source of protein and are well known for their soothing, healing properties. In many cultures it is used topically to treat psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema.

Green tea

Green tea is consistently being hailed as a powerful antioxidant, and is one of the Japanese secrets for longevity and vibrant health. Putting it directly on the skin is equally potent.

Healthy cocktail mix

Mix one mashed avocado, three tablespoons of cocoa powder, two teaspoons of raw honey and two tablespoons of oatmeal flakes. Infuse one green teabag in a small cup of hot water and let it cool. Add a splash to the mixture, or enough to make it into a paste. Leave it on your freshly washed face for 20 to 30 minutes and rinse off with cold water. Apply your usual moisturiser or natural oil and enjoy your youthful complexion.
