#TBT: Women who rocked the airwaves

Achieving Woman

Today is World Radio Day and as such, we would like to pay special tribute to the ladies who rocked the airwaves, not way back but back in the day, and who set the pace for women who want to work in this field and women in general.

If you grew up listening to Caroline Mutoko, you probably know what a controversial woman she is. She hosted a morning show on Kiss 100 and later became the Chief Marketing Officer of Radio Africa Group.

This airwave queen made a name for herself thanks to her uncanny ability to bring to light topics that were on our minds but we didn’t have the courage to voice. She now continues with this on her YouTube channel.

After 10 years on air, Angela Angwenyi hang up her mic and bid her fans farewell. She had worked for Easy FM and Kiss 100 before stepping away from radio.

Sheila Mwanyigha

Another morning show queen, Sheila Mwanyigha is a force to be reckoned with. Formally known as Nikki, her soothing vocals were and still are part of her charm.

She has had a singing career, hosted Tusker Project Fame and worked as a radio presenter on Easy FM. After leaving radio, Ms Mwanyigha embarked on working on her passions. She is the editor of Rembesha, a print and digital magazine, as well as host of Sheila Lives Out Loud, a show she hosts on her YouTube channel.

This former radio host is a singer, songwriter, voice-over artist and karaoke host. Her popularity grew when she, and her two bandmates, won the Coca Cola Popstars competition in 2004. She worked for various radio stations among them Easy FM where she hosted a mid-morning show.
