A Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) pastor has denied defiling a 14-year-old girl in Homa Bay County. Bernard Tambo Odhiambo, who is in charge of a church in Homa Bay East District, yesterday appeared before Homa Bay Senior Resident Magistrate Joy Wesonga.

In the first count, the pastor was accused of defiling the minor who is a Class Eight candidate. The court heard that Odhiambo intentionally and unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the girl at Nyalkinyi area on December 2. In the second count, the pastor was accused of committing an indecent act with a minor. He denied the charges and was released on Sh100,000 bond with a surety of similar amount. The case will be heard on January 11, next year.

Homa Bay Sub-county Police Commander Sammy Koskey said the pastor surrendered to police on Wednesday. He had gone missing for six days. The suspect allegedly defiled the minor in a house meant to be the pastor’s residence at Kobuola Kogwang’ Sub-location in East Kanyada Location.

Elsewhere, a police constable based at Getonganya police post in Kuria West, Migori County, was released on Sh200,000 bond after he denied attempting to defile a minor aged eight in Masaba village.  Kennedy Kiplangat appeared before Kehancha Resident Magistrate Anne Karimi.
