Police officers have engaged their military counterparts to search for a soldier who is on the run after causing the death of his neighbour’s son. Njoro Sub-county Police Commander Muganda Kisaka said police engaged the Kenya Defence Forces after preliminary investigations indicated the suspect sneaked back to his workplace after committing the crime. The 30-year-old corporal stationed at National Defence College in Karen, Nairobi, is accused of severely assaulting Collins Kiptoo, 15, on October 3, leading to his death.
The soldier had accused the minor of stealing a Sh900 phone belonging to his (soldier) mother in Sigor village, Njoro Sub-county. “We are working with the Military Department to have the soldier arrested and charged with murder,” Kisaka said.
Preliminary investigations by the police reveal the soldier summoned the boy to his home, where he interrogated and later assaulted him. Kiptoo was pronounced dead on arrival at Njoro Sub-county Hospital.
