Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday poked fun at Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo by sharing a photo of the legislator pushing a wheelbarrow. The senator, albeit sarcastically, stated that Amollo has been silent because he knows the power of a wheelbarrow.
“If you see my friend @OAmollo maintaining silence, it’s because he knows the power of a wheelbarrow,” wrote Murkomen. The lawmaker promptly responded by saying, “My bro Senator, Only difference is, the wheelbarrows I push when doing #Ondoanyasi are untainted..”
Murkomen was not done yet as he suggested that all those who visit Capitol Hill (Raila Odinga’s office) are often ‘cleansed’. “Bro, I already know that. For whosoever visits Capital Hill dry cleaner though their wheelbarrows are like scarlet, he will make them as white as snow.
“Though they are red like crimson, he will make them as white as wool,” said Murkomen.
Recently, Deputy President William Ruto was spotted pushing a wheelbarrow during an empowerment of over 70 youth and women groups in Nairobi. The DP reiterated that he will be at the forefront to support the ‘hustler nation’ to ensure poverty is a thing of the past.
“We must change Kenya’s political conversation from power to empowerment and positions to creation of jobs. As difficult as it may be, as uncomfortable as it may be, we will keep making strides, step by step, day by day, week by week, month by month, engaging our youth, women and other vulnerable groups in gainful activities until we pull everyone out of poverty,” he said.
Adding: “Leaders must work towards engaging the youth and women in productive activities that would not just earn them an income but also keep them busy, away from participating in anti-social behaviour.”
During a separate meeting with a delegation of women in business from Nairobi County led by nominated Senator Millicent Omanga and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru at his Karen residence on Wednesday, the DP assured that the government will keep creating safe spaces for women, broaden their access to credit and markets opportunities and boost their participation in decision-making at all levels so as to exploit their unlimited potential.
“We are making bold commitment to supporting women in starting and running their own businesses with the utmost appreciation that no instrument for the transformation of our country is as powerful as the empowerment of women,” he said.
