It was, by all accounts, the most unusual of proposals.
Instead of just asking his girlfriend Cally to marry him by dropping down on one knee, Edi Okoro, 30, hid a ring for 30 days while posting pictures of it with his unsuspecting partner.
He said he took the ring with him everywhere hoping the moment would arise to pop the question to girlfriend Cally Read, 28, in line with his spontaneous style.
He shared his story in a post on Facebook, which has gone viral and been liked more than 60,000 times.
He wrote on Facebook: "Those who have gone through this (and those who will soon find out) you want to propose in a way that speaks to you as a person and couple.
"Some plan a flash mob, a fancy meal, or even arrange a marry me sign. I couldn’t do this because 'Edi doesn’t plan' .... I’m a spontaneous improviser."
"This made it even more of a challenge because Cally knows this, and the moment I planned a holiday or meal she would have clocked on to what I was about to do.
"Because of this I took the ring with me everywhere hoping the 'moment' would arise in line with my spontaneous style."
But Edi placed the ring in Cally's hand while she was sleeping, it appeared in selfies of the couple (hidden from Cally) and behind her head while she was queuing at a till in a shop. He took a video of it while she was leaning over the sink brushing her teeth.
The ring was placed on his little finger as Cally took food out of the kitchen cupboard behind him.
He even popped it on a plate with her other jewellery.
Edi continued: "After a month or so of waiting for the right moment, I was sitting on the sofa admiring 'my precious' (yes I became very attached to this ring by this point) Cally almost caught me staring at the ring, and it hit me!....
"All these missed opportunities mixed in with the thought - Cally doesn’t know I have the ring!! I should just start documenting these moments!"
Edi's status has been liked by more than 10,000 people in less than one week.
Strangers from across the world have congratulated the couple.
"Thanks from a total stranger for the beautiful 'How I proposed to Cally' album. Congratulations to the both of you," one woman posted.
"Cutest thing I've ever read! I didn't propose, neither did my husband, yet we are married," added another.
