Aukot garnered less than one percent in August 8 election

Dr. Ekuru Aukot- Presidential candidate, Thirdway Alliance

NAIROBI, KENYA: Thirdway Alliance Party of Kenya Presidential candidate Dr. Ekuru Aukot has welcomed High Court’s ruling to include him in October 26 presidential election.

However, Dr. Ekuru Aukot said his party’s concern on preparedness of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in organizing credible polls still remains unresolved.

“We are happy about today’s High Court ruling and we will be engaging IEBC on our inclusion in the ballot come Election Day,” he said.

“Remember before even the August 8 elections, my party raised questions about the preparedness of IEBC in conducting a credible poll, we are going to retreat as a party to come up with a way forward,” he added.

He said that ThirdWay Alliance still believes that individuals at the IEBC who conducted shoddy polls need to be dealt with before next presidential election conducted. “The bad elements who bangled elections still need to be dealt with and we will make statement in two days.”

According to the last presidential election results, Dr. Aukot got less than 1 percent. In demanding his inclusion in the October 26 election, High Court Judge John Mativo said he found nothing to bar Aukot from contesting the fresh election

His ruling means President Uhuru Kenyatta may still have a challenger on October 26, when the re-run is scheduled despite the withdrawal of National Super Alliance candidate on Raila Odinga over allegations of bias.
