Ingotse High School: Where CA Director General, Wangusi, studied in digital blackout

You are now experiencing a ‘digital blackout’ if you’re still in dodo-analogue mode.

One Kenyan at the forefront of ensuring the much-vaunted digital migration succeeds is Engineer Francis Wangusi, the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya. Before he took over in 2012, he was the broadcasting director who coordinated the Digital Secretariat behind the digital transition.

Just so you know, Wangusi holds an MA in Space Science (Satellite Communications) from International Space University in France; a BA in Technology (Telecoms Engineering) from University of Rome in Ital; and a Global Executive MA in Business Administration from United States International University-Africa in Nairobi.

The chartered engineer with the Engineering Council of UK, went to one of those schools you would scratch your head to figure out - Ingotse High School in Western Kenya, where books, music and sports are blended bedfellows.

Ingotse, where former Harambee Stars tactician Chris Makokha began his coaching career during a pre-university stint in the mid-1970s, is a modest provincial school, 14 kilometres from Kakamega, along the Shikhoti-Nambacha Road.

It was founded in 1952, the year Governor Evelyn Baring declared the State of Emergency in Kenya.

The school, whose motto is ‘Strive to Excel,’ has indeed excelled in among others; music and drama festivals, where it’s a constant fixture at national levels, besides its perennial rivalry with Kakamega High in soccer.

This extra-county school that is sponsored by the Church of God boasts of notable alumni who wore its navy blue trousers, white shirts and navy blue sweaters. Besides Wangusi, other alumni of Ingotse include the current Lurambi MP, Raphael Milikau Ootalo and Navakholo MP, Emmanuel Wangwe.
