Kiambu Assembly adjourn to follow International Criminal Court proceedings

Kiambu, Kenya: The Kiambu county assembly on Wednesday adjourned its afternoon session so that they can follow proceedings live on TV in solidarity with Uhuru Kenyatta who hails from the county.

The motion of adjournment that was tabled by Kikuyu ward MCA Binary Wainaina and seconded by Sigona ward MCA Mutonya Njenga was unanimously supported by the whole house.

Ngewa MCA Karungo wa Thang'wa while contributing to the motion sought that members should not be paid their sitting even for the morning session which only lasted a few minutes.

Kiambu assembly speaker Gathii Irungu in a press conference outside the assembly building said they decided to adjourn  session so that members can find time to dedicate the head of state Uhuru Kenyatta to God.

"We want members to have time to pray and fast for President Uhuru Kenyatta and be in solidarity with him while he is facing this case that has been disturbing him for so long," said Mr Gathii.

He added that he hopes that now that the ICC prosecutor has shown on numerous occasion that she does not have enough evidence the charges will be dropped and allow him time to come back and serve this nation.

This being the county where the President comes from,  Kiambu Governor William Kabogo  is leading a number of MCA to the Hague to give the President moral support. Majority leader Simon Komu, deputy speaker Antony Macharia , nominated MCA Susan Mumbi are among the members in Netherlands.

"We have members who have paid for their trips to the ICC to be in solidity with the head of state as he is our son and comes from this county," said the speaker.

Members later thronged the speaker’s office and other TV sets available within the assembly building to follow the proceedings live.
