Car rams kiosks, injures six people including university students

Nyeri, Kenya: Six people, including two students from Dedan Kimathi University and a physically challenged man, were Wednesday injured when the driver of a speeding car lost control and hit them along Kimathi Street, Nyeri town.

The vehicle, believed to belong to a police officer, rammed the roadside kiosks injuring the victims who were taken to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital.

“The speeding car veered off the road and hit six people, one of whom was a lady buying roast maize,” said James Gitonga, an eyewitness.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Thuita Wambugu, a third-year student whose arm was injured, said the driver of the car that hit them took them to hospital using another vehicle. It took Nyeri traffic police more than an hour to arrive at the scene of the accident.
