Seven women at Kisumu East District Hospital give birth on Saba Saba day

Kisumu, Kenya: Joyce Atieno is among seven women who were privileged to hold new-born babies at Kisumu East District Hospital on the Saba Saba day.

Ms Atieno of Manyatta estate, Kisumu town was admitted to the facility on Sunday midnight and went through labour for 12 hours, and delivered at noon yesterday; few hours before the Saba Saba celebrations began at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.

"I am privileged to give birth on this historical day. I still do not have a chosen name for my son but I might name him Saba Saba or Raila," she said.

Atieno said she was happy that the celebrations were peaceful and that she gave birth in a peaceful environment.

Her son was among the six baby boys born at the facility yesterday.
