Commercial sex worker arrested over man's death in Salgaa

Police have arrested a commercial sex worker at Salgaa trading centre in connection with the death a 25-year-old man.

Bernard Ng'etich's body was found outside a rental house belonging to the woman on Saturday morning, with multiple stab wounds.

Meshack Kipkurui, a neighbour, said he heard a commotion in the house shortly after commercial sex worker arrived with Mr Ng'etich.

"There was another man in the house when the two arrived in the wee hours of the morning," Mr Kipkurui said.

Other neighbours said they saw the woman cleaning her house in the morning. Surprisingly even after the body was discovered a few meters from her house, the woman continued to enjoy her sleep as neighbours gathered at the scene.

The suspect claimed she was innocent and did not know what caused the death of the casual labourer.

Rongai Officer Commanding Police Division Joseph Mwamburi confirmed the incident saying they were investigating the matter.

And rising incidents of insecurity have caused fear among Salgaa residents. Recently several shops were broken into and robbed by a gang of an unknown number.

A meeting had been called to discuss various means to curb the issue.

Speaking during the meeting Salgaa Business Association Chairman Livingstone Sawe said his members were concerned over rising insecurity especially break-ins.

The meeting at Salgaa chief's camp brought together business owners in the area. They called for co-operation between the community and security authorities to ensure security is restored.

Landlords and lodging operators were asked to keep clear records of their occupants so that strangers can be monitored easily.

Mr Mwamburi said police were investigating the matter. But Mwamburi blamed locals for being reluctant to share criminal incidences with police officers that make it difficult to contain insecurity.
