CORD leader Raila Odinga calls for sacking of corrupt CSs in Kenya

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has welcomed the decision by former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to leave office.

He, however, called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Cabinet secretaries implicated in corruption.

Raila said he was happy Ms Waiguru had resigned but questioned what she meant by asking to be given light duties that the President deemed fit.

"It is very confusing. I can't tell whether Waiguru has resigned or stepped aside and that is why the former Devolution CS or the President should clarify to the country what 'light duties' she will be assigned, even if it is in the kitchen," said Raila.

He said it was a bad picture for ministers to be out of office for over eight months, adding that currently the country is lacking a properly constituted Cabinet.

"The President should draw the line and tell us what he is doing about the ministers who stepped aside. He should sack them and appoint new ones if at all they are guilty or allow them to report back if they are clean," said the CORD leader.

He said the situation where Cabinet secretaries are acting in two ministries cannot go on.

"If the Cabinet secretaries are redundant, remove them and run the Government using principal secretaries only," said Raila.

Cabinet secretaries who have paved way for investigations include Felix Koskei (Agriculture), Charity Ngilu (Lands), Davis Chirchir (Energy) and Kazungu Kambi (Labour).
