Nairobi, Kenya: Embattled Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has now filed a request seeking to have the media barred from covering his hate remark case.

Following the recent utterances by the first-time MP, Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko moved to court under certified of urgency to have Kuria's bail from previous case cancelled.

Kuria, through his lawyer Danson Mungatana, asked Milimani Principal Magistrate Teresiah Nyangena to hold court proceedings on cancelation of the MPs bond in camera.

"Our application is based on facts that speak for themselves since our client has been tried and convicted by the press without a fair hearing,” Mungatana said.

State Counsel Nicodemus Maingi opposed the application saying it is unconstitutional.

"The statements that are subject matter of the case was made in public, it therefore beats logic for such mater to be adjudicated in closed doors,” Maingi said.

Kuria who has been accusing the media of being biased in handling his case is facing hate speech charges for allegedly inciting youth to attack people who are opposed to the National Youth Service projects.

The magistrate will make ruling on the application on July 20.
