Two male bodies retrieved from the shores of Mombasa

Mombasa, Kenya: Two unidentified male bodies were on Tuesday retrieved from the Indian Ocean, less than a mile apart.

One had its skin pigmentation completely peeled off indicating it washed onto the shore after five days of drowning in sea water while the second body had a missing hand.

Police on Tuesday said that the bodies were yet to be identified but seamen at one of the scene said that one of the decomposing bodies may have been washed to the shore from the high seas.

The first body was found floating below the Nyali Bridge by members of the public who called Mombasa county fire brigade to retrieved it.

The second body was found on the shore of the ocean a few meters from Tamarid Hotel but was later towed to the shore of Mandhuba beach near Allidina Visram high school by unidentified vessel.

On Tuesday police had not been able to identify the two bodies.

"The body was pulled to this place and we tied it down so that it does not disappear. From the extent of the damage, our experience tells us that it had stayed for close to five days in the water," said Musa Wanyama, one of the divers who retrieved the body.

The body found below the bridge had also decomposed.

Kisauni OCPD Richard Ngatia confirmed the two bodies had been retrieved from the ocean and that they had been taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary for preservation.

"I have been told about the two deaths but I am still waiting for a full report on the same. I will brief you in the course of the day," said Kisauni OCPD Richard Ngatia on phone.
