Football fan in Kisumu bites rival’s earlobe

A man in Kisumu is nursing injuries to his right ear after he was allegedly bitten by a friend over a football argument.

The game in question was between two English Premier League (EPL) bigwigs, Arsenal and Manchester United FC played on Saturday evening.

The 16-year-old who was supporting Arsenal is still coming to terms with life without a full earlobe after a Manchester United fan bit him following a tiff over the match results that saw Arsenal lose 2-1 to Manchester United.

The fast-paced clash at Emirates Stadium (Arsenal’s home ground) led to much mockery, which persisted long after the match.

The suspect, a Form Two student who could not stand it any longer was said to have pounced on his friend, also a Form Two student biting his right ear.

According to a neighbor, Millicent Ogombe, she woke up to find people milling around the victims house.

“He was being teased by his friend about Arsenal’s loss prompting a slap,” said Ms Ogombe, adding that suspect got angry and quickly rushed to his house to get a club and clobber his opponent.

In the name of the game

The Arsenal fan was donning a Real Madrid FC jersey later pleaded for forgiveness saying that he didn’t intend to slap him, and that he was only vexed that his team lost the match and did not want to be teased about it.

The two would later call a truce.

But it did not last long as the manwent ahead and attacked his friend as the victim struggled to free himself.

The incident drew the attention of neighbours and passers-by who intervened and stopped the fight.

Some bayed for Manchester United fan’s blood, while others rushed their colleague to Kisumu County Hospital where his wound was nursed.

Neighbours locked the suspsect in his house as they waited for the police to arrive at the scene.

Ogombe termed the incident as unfortunate. “He should have found a better way of sorting the matter than biting his friend’s ear,” she added.

She said the players in England’s top teams do not even know their fans in Kenya, yet people can go as far as killing each other on their behalf.

Another neighbour Onesimus Chumo wondered at the lengths young men will go in the name of the game.

Residents of Railways Estate said it was not the first time such fights have been witnessed in the area.
