Mudavadi will not re-join ODM, ANC official says

Amani National Congress (ANC) party has dismissed leaders calling for its party leader Musalia Mudavadi to re-join Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) saying they are 'wasting' time.

ANC officials said there is no room for their party leader to join the party which he ditched in 2013 citing lack of democracy.

Godfrey Osotsi, ANC national secretary said ANC is focusing on how to win the presidency in 2017 quashing hopes that Mudavadi will join the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD).

He said those calling for Mudavadi to re-join ODM are hypocritical in their calls because they are the ones who asked Mudavadi to leave the party in 2013.

"It is strange to us that Senator Boni Khalwale is asking Mudavadi to re-join ODM and CORD brigade yet he is the one who told Mudavadi to quit ODM in 2013," said Osotsi.

He asked the leaders to stop panicking instead support the former deputy prime minister in his second attempt for presidency in 2017.

Mr Osotsi said ANC is currently engaged in countrywide mobilization to consolidate its support ahead of 2017 polls.

"ANC is currently focusing on nationwide campaigns to consolidate our base. Let leaders not panic a lot when they are attending funerals or public rallies but rather let them support Mudavadi for his bid," he said.

He added, "The focus now is building a strong political party that is all inclusive. It is too early to talk about coalitions. Why are they talking about ANC joining other parties and not other parties joining ANC?"

ANC has been reaping big from ODM and Ford Kenya parties which are the dominant parties in the region.

Over the weekend over 100 ODM members from Lugari Sub County decamped to join ANC a month after former ODM chairman David Malala led other officials to join ANC.

Ford Kenya also lost at least 30 members from Kakamega County who announced their move to ANC after citing lack of good leadership qualities in their former parties.

"The party is on the right track, we have received high numbers of defectors across the country and we will continue traversing all corners of the country to reach more members. This weekend we will pitch tent in Kwale County then we will also tour Busia County the following weekend to assure Kenyans that ANC is the best option," Osotsi said.
