Sir Alex Ferguson earned over £2million in 2014 as Man United global ambassador

Sir Alex Ferguson raked in more than £2million last year from his role as a global ambassador for Manchester United.

Former United boss Ferguson earned £2,165,000 between October 2013 and June last year, according to official figures from the club’s accounts.

Since stepping down after 26-and-a-half years in charge at Old Trafford in May 3013, Ferguson has been working as a £100,000-a-day ambassador for United.

The figures are contained in United’s accounts, which have been lodged at Companies House, and show the former boss remains a key asset to the club, despite having stepped down as manager.

United’s hierarchy recognise Ferguson’s enduring value and appeal in terms of helping to grow their already huge commercial profile all over the world, with the Scot still one of football’s most recognisable and iconic figures.

Old Trafford legend Sir Bobby Charlton was also paid by United in 2013-14 for ‘consultancy services’, although the England 1966 World Cup hero made just £105,000.

The accounts also revealed the pay-off for former United boss David Moyes and his staff towards the end of last season was £4,892,000.

Moyes was sacked after just 10 months in charge of United after succeeding Ferguson, who personally endorsed the former Everton boss as his Old Trafford successor.

The pay-off figure for Moyes included compensation for his staff, among them former United star Phil Neville, as well as Steve Round, Jimmy Lumsden and Chris Woods.
