Meru speaker to be sworn in as acting governor

Meru, Kenya: Meru County Assembly Speaker Joseph Kaberia will on Monday be sworn in as the county’s acting governor.

This has been occasioned by the nullification of Peter Munya’s election as governor by the Court of Appeal in Nyeri last week. The Speaker told The Standard that he has already received a notification letter from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“I can now confirm that I have received a notification letter from IEBC for a vacant position in the office of governor,” he said.

He said that he had been informed by the Transitional Authority county coordinator and the County secretary all the preparation for swearing have been put in place.

“All the preparation has been done,” he said.
