‘Fake’ County Commissioner arraigned in court

By PAUL MUTUA

Kitui, Kenya: A man appeared before a Kitui court Thursday and was charged with obtaining money by impersonating the County Commissioner and a magistrate.

Antony Munyalo commonly known as Moses was also accused of obtaining Sh90,000 from two people between July 8 and 20.

Munyalo denied that he obtained Sh50,000 through Mpesa from James Mutuku Nzwii by falsely pretending he was the county commissioner and that he would issue him a licence to operate a funfair business.

He further denied obtaining another Sh40,000 through Mpesa from Faith Mwende Kithome in pretext that he was the Senior Principal Magistrate and that he would favour her in her divorce suit before the magistrate.

Court prosecutor Joseph Mutia successfully applied for the accused person to be remanded at the police cells for four days for more interrogations.

The magistrate ordered the matter be heard in a different court.
