Sonko’s wife rescues Kibera family living in a car

Ishmael Abdalla Khamis and his two kids have every reason to smile after their story ‘A car called home’ was highlighted in the media by KTN's feature editor Sharon Momanyi. 

This is after Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s wife Primrose Mbuvi came to their rescue.

The Nairobi First Lady visited Kibera Constituency on Tuesday 2 October and offered to provide a temporary shelter for Ismael’s family.

“Nairobi City County First Lady Primrose Mbuvi Sonko visiting the family of Ismael Khamis in Makina, Kibra Constituency, after his plight was highlighted in the media,” said Sonko

“The First Lady has offered to provide a temporary shelter for the father of two who is currently living inside an abandoned car in Makina.”

Ishmael’s two kids, Talib Ishmael 13, and his ten-year-old brother Said, will also be admitted in school courtesy of the first lady.

“Additionally, the First Lady will ensure the two kids are admitted in school” added Sonko.

Ismael, who started living in the car with his kids about two years ago, used to sell water but is currently jobless.

His wife abandoned the family right after Ishmael’s water-selling business failed in 2013 and left the two kids under his care.

A devastated 13-year-old Talib says he upset at the fact that their mother left them at such a time.
