Interior CS Fred
Matiang’i on Friday lauded three women who went out of their way to feed police
officers manning a roadblock at the Tala checkpoint.
The story of the
three women led by Priscilla Kioko was widely shared on social media, catching
the attention of the CS who paid them an impromptu visit.
Matiang’i utilised his Labour Day by visiting officers at various checkpoints and recognised the efforts of the women describing it as the true Kenyan spirit.
“Had the pleasure
to meet the gracious ladies who are voluntarily supporting our officers at the
Tala checkpoint. On behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Government, I
thank them.
“They exemplify
Kenya's spirit and the much-needed synergy between citizens and security
organs,” said the CS.
On their part,
the women said they were touched by the efforts of the officers and empathized
with their situation since they worked for long hours and there were no shops
near the roadblock.
The CS commended the officers for their dedication, asking them to continue giving their best.
Matiang’i also
condoled with the families of seven officers who were swept away by flash
floods in Baringo County.
“Saddened
to learn of the demise of seven of our gallant police officers who were part of
a group whose vehicle was swept away by flash floods at Chemoe, Baringo County
in the course of their service.
“My condolences and prayers to their families and colleagues,” he wrote.
