Gruesome killing of newspaper vendor remains a puzzle to Kenyans

Investigators into the gruesome death of a newspaper vendor are zeroing in on a love triangle and long-running family dispute as motives for the horrific killing.

Geoffrey Matchese 35, who also owned residential houses in Kamukunji estate in Eldoret met his gruesome death last Saturday in his house under circumstances that raise questions among neighbours, friends and relatives.

His wife Mitchel Shisanya 29 known by neighbours as Melisa and a motorcycle rider Ekitui Amatuka are being held in connection with the killing and will take plea on Monday.

In Kamukunji, where the vendor lived, neighbours and tenants claim the couple were constantly quarreling.

One tenant on Friday narrated how the wife was allegedly rough on her husband.

Melisa and Amatuka were nabbed while transporting her husband’s body on a motorcycle.

An autopsy conducted on Tuesday afternoon at MTRH revealed that Matchese died of severe internal bleeding occasioned by a head injury. The report also indicated he had multiple injuries on his abdomen.

Eldoret West OCPD Zacharia Bitok said the two suspects may have been on their way to dump Matchese’s body.
