Fear as civilian gun owners have become out of control

The case of civilians possessing weapons has reached an alarming rate. There is massive misuse of guns by civilians in recent days.

Sad is the case of a landlady in Eldoret town who used a pistol to scare her tenants away for not paying rent on time.

In the process, she injured a campus student who is one of her tenants.

Another case is in West Pokot where a group of five people engaged police officers in a shoot-out at their hideout before fleeing.

This was during inter community clashes that were sparked by the murder of three villagers during Easter holidays in Kerio valley.

The misuse of guns by civilians is causing insecurity and fear among other citizens.

The National Gun Owners Association should urge Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, Inspector General of police and the national government to take action against unlicensed gun holders found guilty of misusing weapons.
