Bomet Governor Dr Hillary Barchok claims MCA aspirant is a threat to his family

Bomet Governor Dr Hillary Barchok claims his life and his family are in danger.

He links his troubles to former Member of County Assembly aspirant, Florence Chepng’etich Chebaibai, whom he accuses of insulting him and spreading false information about him online.

The governor, who spoke to The Nairobian claims that early this week, Chebaibai posted on a WhatsApp group that he was unwell and had been admitted at a private hospital in Kericho.

Further, he accuses Chebaibai of insulting and attacking his wife, and he is afraid she might use witchcraft to harm his family.

The governor claims he has attempted to sort out the matter including approaching Chebaibai’s parents in vain, since, “she has been a threat to me and my family. She might even go the extent of harming me or even use witchcraft.”

Barchok said he reported the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Bomet County and wants Chebaibia banned from mingling in his private affairs.

He claims that this is not the first time Chebaibia has attacked him.

“I have twice reported the matter to DCI, but the matter has not been acted upon. This time round, it is serious, and I will not take it lightly anymore. When police were hunting her down in one of the cases, she went underground. It is clear she doesn’t learn from her past mistakes.  She will now face the law,” he told The Nairobian.

Chebaibia: Barchok is a stumbling block

Former Member of County Assembly aspirant, Florence Chepng’etich Chebaibai

Speaking to The Nairobian, Chebaibia, who contested for the MCA seat in Kipreres ward, Bomet East Constituency in 2017, but lost the elections denied the allegations.

She claims that the governor has been a stumbling block in her career advancement and has negatively influenced her not landing plum jobs in the county government.

“Our issues started when I started eyeing other positions in the county government. It is sad since I’m among those who proposed that the deputy governor be nominated from Kipreres ward and that is how Dr Joyce Laboso nominated him.  At that time, he was jobless. We even supported him financially,” she claims.

She added; “He started ignoring me. I have appeared in more than five interviews including docket for Youth and sports, where I was qualified and shortlisted, Barchok became a stumbling block.”

She further claims the county boss used derogatory remarks touching on her marriage and womanhood, among other claims.

From the text messages that The Nairobian are privy to, it appears the two are at loggerheads.

In one of the text messages dated April, 24, 2020, Chebaibai was asking the governor for forgiveness.

“I am sorry my governor, for any utterances that I made against you. I’m nowadays saved and I don’t want to create permanent hostility to anyone in the world,” she wrote.

Adding that; “I love to see my fatherless children prospering without any sin created by their mum…count my support fully on your Jubilee party ticket and request the same to any political position I’m yet to declare, please accept my apology”

Chebaibai also claimed that the governor has made serious claims about her life and labelled her a witch.

“My husband was killed in a road accident in Uganda, and I feel sad whenever the issue is brought up in a manner to suggest that I could have had a hand in it. The governor went overboard linking me to serious claims and even mentioning witchcraft,” she said.
