Manchester United players to take pay cut for failing to qualify for Champions League

United players will see their salaries cut by 25%

Manchester United players’ salaries will be cut by 25 per cent after failing to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The 20-time English champions’ hopes of securing a place in the Champions League were ruined after drawing 1-1 against relegated Huddersfield.

United will now play in the Europa League in the 2019/2020 campaign where the commercial and broadcasting revenues aren’t nearly as lucrative as Champions League.

And according to Givemesport.com, contracts at United are structured, such that up to a quarter of wages are taken away if they do not qualify for the Champions League.

This is to protect the club from the massive drop in revenue.

Manchester United boast the title of being the richest club in the Premier League and one of the wealthiest in world football.

Sanchez is Manchester United's highest-earning player.
