Twenty-five people including 13 students from Njonjo Girls Secondary School sustained injuries in a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Wednesday.
The victims are admitted to Naivasha Level Four Hospital in stable condition.
The accident occurred after a private van heading to Nairobi was involved in a head-on collision with a matatu that was ferrying the students to Laikipia county at midday at Karai about 10kms from Naivasha town.
The van was overtaking when it rammed the matatu which veered off the road.
Naivasha Deputy OCPD James Ooro said the injured are in stable condition.
He said initial investigations show the driver of the van which was ferrying passengers to Nairobi from Kisumu was to blame.
“All those involved in the accident are being treated in Naivasha Level Four hospital and they are in stable condition while the wreckage of the vehicles have been towed to the police station,” he said.
Police are waiting for both drivers to record statements once they are discharged from the hospital.
The Superintendent in charge of the hospital, Dr Bernard Warui said that they received 25 patients, with three of them in serious condition.
“The three suffered fractures and are in stable condition while the rest have been treated for minor injuries,” he said on phone.
This comes just hours after 15 people including seven minors were killed in an accident involving a matatu and trailer along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
Elsewhere, a middle-aged man was hit and killed by a matatu along the Mai Mahiu-Narok road.
Following the morning incident near Zambezi Hotel, transport along the busy road was temporarily paralyzed as police moved in to collect the body and tow away the wreckage of the matatu.
“The man crossed the road without checking both ways and he was hit by the Narok-bound matatu killing him on the spot," said Joseph Njoroge, eyewitness.
