Covid-19: Kenya's positivity rate now at 25.6pc

Some 2,216 people have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 8,669 tested in Kenya in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is now at 25.6 per cent, with 1,984 of the cases being Kenyans while 232 are foreigners.

Some 1,124 are men and 1,092 are women. The youngest is a two-month-old child while the oldest is 105 years.

Kenya's total confirmed positive cases are now 304,350 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,065,623.

In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said in terms of county distribution Nairobi led with 861, followed by Siaya 149, Nakuru 119, Kiambu 99, Kitui 99, Nyamira 94, Uasin Gishu 80, Laikipia 67, and Mombasa 67.

Others are Migori 56, Turkana 55, Kericho 54, Kakamega 49, Kilifi 35, Kisumu 33, Nyeri 28, Kirinyaga 27, Murang'a 24, Nyandarua 22, and Kajiado 20, among others.

Today 775 patients have recovered from the disease, 578 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme, while 197 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 259,308 of whom 209,648 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 49,660 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Three patients have succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,404. 

A total of 1,226 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 25,969 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.

Fifty-one patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 27 of them on ventilatory support while 18 are on supplemental oxygen. This comes as six patients are under observation.

Another 328 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 292 of them are in the general wards. Thirty-six patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

As of yesterday, more than 10.3 million vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, more than 5.9 million are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are more than 4.3 million.

Another 22,885 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 23,939 are booster doses. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.1 per cent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15.9 per cent. Kagwe said the government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of more than 27.2 million.
