The country has recorded 679 new Covid-19 infections from a sample size of 5, 693 in the last 24 hours, Ministry of Health reports.
This pushes the country’s total caseload to 221,406 since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020. The positivity rate is 11.9 per cent.
10 more patients were reported bringing the total fatalities to 4,350.
“Only one death was reported in the last 24 hours, the rest (nine) are late death reports after conducting facility record audits August 2021,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe’s statement read in part.
However, 1, 550 more Covid-19 patients recovered from the virus: 1, 426 from home-based care and self-isolation and 124 others from various health facilities countrywide. This brings the total recoveries to 221, 406.
Nairobi still reports the majority of the cases, 357, followed closely by Kilifi with 53 new infections, Kiambu 36, Nakuru 33, Meru 29 Murang’a 22 Machakos 20 as the other counties had less than 20 cases in the last 24 hours.
Kagwe says some 9,602 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 1,981 are admitted in various health facilities and 159 more are in the ICU.
Only 2.7 per cent of the adult population is fully vaccinated, with at least 2,053,717 vaccines administered as of August, 15, 2021.
