Nominated Health Ministry Principal Secretary Dr Nicholas Muraguri has promised to bring positive change in the sector if he lands the position. Making his presentation before Parliament's vetting committee, the outgoing Director of Medical Services said he would reform the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).
"We need to urgently reform the NHIF, especially the composition of the board members right from the CEO," said Dr Muraguri.
In line with Article 43 of the Constitution that states that all persons have a right to emergency care, he said if appointed, he would seek to put in place a policy on the provision of emergency medical treatment.
When questioned on what ails the Health sector, Dr Muraguri cited healthcare financing challenges and promised to strengthen the systems to ensure appropriate services are provided.
Muraguri holds a bachelor's degree in Surgery and Medicine from Moi University, and a Master degree in Public Health.
