For those who might be wondering what all this is about, exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin from your body. And it happens to be one of the oldest skin care routines.

As beneficial as exfoliation is to our skin, we have to ensure that we don’t overdo it as it can damage our skin if done too much. Once or twice in a week should suffice.

Also be mindful of the products you use and make sure that the particles are not too rough or contain harsh chemicals that can damage your skin.

On the bright side you can exfoliate even without having a facial or body scrub by substituting the scrubs with home exfoliating remedies such as a sugar, milk and honey combination, and other numerous options.

For those who don’t quite understand why exfoliating is such a big deal here are some reasons why you need to start exfoliating.

i.Removing dead skin

Exfoliating is the best way to remove dead skin cells that build up on the skin. These skin cells can clog pores resulting in pimples and rushes. Exfoliating once or twice a week (but not more than twice) can efficiently remove the dead skin.

ii.Helps smoothen your skin

By removing the dead skin cells, exfoliating ensures that the skin remains soft and smooth. If you notice that your foundation or concealer is not applying evenly, consider exfoliating to remove the dead skin cells that build up on the skin and cause unevenness of the skin.

For your make up to sit well, you need to ensure that your skin is smooth and evenly layered.

iii.Removing excessive oils

Exfoliating helps remove the excessive oils that might have clogged up your pores. Exfoliating is a form of skin-deep cleansing that helps clear up the pores leaving the skin fresh and free from excess oils which are responsible for white heads and black heads.

iv.Helps you maintain an even skin tone

Exfoliation removes dry patches that might cause uneven skin tone. You can mix your home-made scrub with turmeric, which is an antioxidant and good for evening out your skin tone, to achieve the best results.

v.Makes your skin soft

I know we all like how smooth and soft our skin feels after exfoliating. This is because it gets rid of any buildup dirt, skin cells and oils on our skin that was causing roughness.

To maintain this texture on your skin, make sure to do this once a week at most twice, for the best results.

vi.It’s a great way to moisturize your skin

Since your scrub contains water and other liquids, exfoliating leaves your skin moisturized. Make sure that you don’t use a dry scrub as it will cause cuts and bruises on your skin. You can consider adding a few drops of milk in your homemade sugar, honey and turmeric scrub to ensure that it’s not too dry for your skin.
