My word: It's time to step it up and not only count on lucky stars

Living

I challenged myself to a skipping routine some time back. My commitment lasted a week. The exercise wasn’t difficult or boring or futile. No. The problem was me. I’m a commitment-phobe, especially when it comes to fitness.

Don’t get me wrong, I can commit to lots of things. I can see a lot of things through and I have done a lot of that in my life – from my career to my spiritual life to my family.

Somehow when it comes to promises I have made to myself and not other people, I lack the …er…what’s the word…stamina?

I’m sure you’re reading this and not having much difficulty relating to what I’m saying. I’m not making excuses but it’s human nature to want to take the easy route. We love shortcuts and we enjoy taking advantage of lucky breaks.

Unfortunately, with some things, always counting on your lucky stars will eventually catch up with you. Physical fitness and a healthy diet are two things you do not want to gamble with. Perhaps you might change your choice of exercise or start watching what you’re eating more closely. You might change the timings for your workout – whether it’s a scheduled routine at the gym or a random walk around the estate, one thing you should never mess with is whether you do it or not.

If you do, sooner or later, in a few years you will wish you could turn back the hands of time.

Let’s purpose to step it up – whether it’s for that tiny waist you’ve always longed for or so you get to see your grandchildren.
