Kenya Lionesses humble Zambia in Uganda

Kenya Lionesses began their journey to World Cup on the front foot after seeing off Zambia 36-17 in 2022 Eastern Rugby Africa Women's Cup action at the Wankulukuku Stadium in Kampala, Uganda yesterday.

Kenya are in Group B alongside hosts Uganda and Zambia as the three sides hunt for a single ticket to next year's Rugby Africa Cup that serves as a qualifier for the 2023 world cup.

The team that emerges top of the three will advance to next year's Group A which has continental champions South Africa, Zimbabwe. and Namibia.Captain Perez Muyuka gave Kenya an early 5-0 lead after grounding a mole try but Grace Adhiambo could not convert the twos.

Naomi Amuguni doubled the advantage in the 18th minute through another driving mole that Adhiambo comfortably converted for a 12-0 lead.Ann Gorreti's drop goal took the scores to 15-0 before Zambia got their first try through Meryl Yambaat the half-hour mark to cut the scores to 15-5.

Goretti would exchange penalties with Adhiambo before Christabel Lindo touched down for a 23-12 lead at the break.In the final half, Leah Wambui barged over the whitewash for the bonus point try as Goretti added the extras for a 30-12 lead.

Gorreti added two more penalties as Yambaat grabbed her brace for Zambia as Kenya won 36-17.Kenya will face Uganda at 4.00pm on Wednesday next week in a must win match.The hosts kicked off the 2022 edition on Tuesday with a 36-17 win over Zambia.
