In an interview released by The Sun on Sunday night, Cristiano Ronaldo spoke about "zero progress" at Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in the summer of 2013.
Manchester United on Sunday beat Fulham 2-1 but attention quickly switched to Ronaldo's television interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.
Asked by Morgan about the club, Ronaldo replied: "Nothing changed, surprisingly. Not only the pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym. Even the kitchen, the chefs, whom I appreciate - lovely people. They stopped in time. It surprised me a lot.
"I thought I would see other things, technologies, and infrastructure. Unfortunately, we see a lot of what I used to see at 21, 22, and 23 years old. It really surprised me."
Ronaldo added: "Since Ferguson left, I haven't seen an evolution at the club. Progress is zero. You have to tear it down and rebuild it. If they start with me, it's not a problem,"
Also in the interview, Ronaldo was asked whether United's hierarchy was trying to push him out of the club.
Ronaldo responded that the club has betrayed him and that he is being forced out, while he has no respect for manager Erik ten Hag.
"Yes, not only the coach (Ten Hag), but another two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed," he said.
"Yes I feel betrayed, and I felt some people don't want me here, not just this year, but last year too."
With the 37 year-old surely unlikely to play for the club again, speculation over his future will accelerate.
Ronaldo's first spell was under former United manager Alex Ferguson, who retired in 2013. The Portuguese said his view of the club is shared by Ferguson.
