Four people accused of pouring chang'aa on police officers were arraigned at Makadara Law Courts where they were charged with three counts of assault, resisting arrest and possession of narcotic drugs. Kelvin Kembero Martin, Damagrine Masiko Mayenga, Jentrice Bonare Mayenga and Felix Kimithi Katiwa denied the charged when they appeared before Makadara Chief Magistrate Francis Kyambia. They were released on Sh100,000 bail.

According to court documents, the four, two men and two women, jointly assaulted officer Simon Kiliku, on October 28 who was carrying on his official duties of arresting a suspect in possession of narcotic drugs. On the same day, the accused persons assaulted and resisted arrest by officer Kiliku and Shadrack Juma at a chang'aa den located within Mabatini by wrestling them down.

Kembero was singly charged for being in possession of ten rolls of dry green land material suspected to be cannabis sativa worth Sh200 which was not in medicinal prescription. On the material day, the two officers were on patrol at about 10pm when they came across two men who looked suspicious and who upon noticing the police started running towards Mabatini area in Tassia.

Petrol to burn officers

The two officers followed them and caught up with them at a chang'aa den. Here they bumped into the two ladies Masiko and Bonare who ganged up against the officers by calling members of the public to join them in assaulting the officers whom they alleged were bothering them. The officers tried to manage the situation by arresting Kembero but he assaulted Kiliku causing him injuries on the mouth and the head. Kembero is said to have incited people to get petrol to burn the officers.

During the search, Kembero found with rolls of bhang. In the ensuing chaos, the two women who were selling chang'aa poured the same onto the officers' trouser while Katiwa was closing the door to bar the officers from leaving with Kembero whom they had arrested. The officers were forced to request for a reinforcement from the Embakasi police station and they were soon joined by other colleagues who arrested the four accused persons. The matter shall be mentioned on December 6.
