When you are away for work and the kids are at school, the house always remained clean and cleaning it was not such a haze. But then boom! You are stuck indoors with your family, and keeping the house spick and span seems like a distant memory. This is even made harder by the fact that you have to spend all the time inside the house.
Not to mention all the utensils that are piling up almost instantaneously. Aggravated by the constant nudge to snack and lazy on the couch all day and night binge watching, you will constantly find yourself in a mess and the house dirty.
But this doesn’t have to always be the case. Here are some ways you can keep your house clean while you stay indoors
Always make your bed
Forgetting to spread your bed in the morning can be a recipe for disaster, especially when you enjoy sleeping in.
When you make your bed the first thing in the morning, it is unlikely for you to immediately go back to bed. You will find yourself tiding the house and finishing chores as early as you wake up. This is because your resting area is already clean and you don’t want to mess it up.
Leaving your bed untidy will only keep pushing you back to sleep and before you know it, you are having snacks in your bed and piling on the mess. When your bedroom is clean, other rooms automatically fall in place.
Never leave used dishes on the sink
Now that you are stuck at home, you are probably snacking more than usual and having your four to five meals a day. This means that you are constantly using different utensils for different meals and snacks. Try to leave the sink clean every time you use a plate, cup or glass.
A single glass may seem like nothing on the sink but wait till it is dinner time and all the dishes are piled up on the sink and you have nothing to use while cooking.
If you have kids, constantly remind them to rinse their plates and glasses after use to reduce the pile of utensils on the sink. At the end of the day, this will also reduce your job by half when you finally decide to clean the kitchen.
Keep shoes out of the house
Shoes are the number one dirt carrier. They constantly carry with them dirt when you go outside and walk right back into the house without removing them. Shoes leave dirt everywhere and when you walk all over the house in them, your house will always give an untidy impression.
You also need to watch out for your children when they go outside to play. They are notorious for playing outside and jumping right back onto the sofa without cleaning themselves or taking off their shoes.
Consider having a rug at the door where people coming in can wipe their shoes and, if possible, have a shoe rack at the door to make your work easier.
With the current situation, it is advisable to have a single pair of shoes and jacket that you leave the house in and remove by the door every time you come back. This will help to avoid spreading the virus to your family members or infecting the house, in case you came into contact with infected people while out there.
Divide house chores
When each member of your household has a responsibility, it is easy to single out those who are always trying to slag on their part.
Involving kids is a good way of keeping them engaged and teaching them on how to be responsible. When you do all the house chores by yourself, the burden of ensuring the house stays clean is left on your shoulders. However, when you divide the chores, everyone knows they have a role to play.
This is also a clever way of catching a break.
Additionally, you can have a cleaning schedule to help you keep the house clean and reduce chances of slacking when you need to do house chores.
Never sleep on a mess
Waking up to house chores every morning can be such a buzz kill especially when you have to do all the house chores and still get some office work done.
When you go to bed with a dirty house you obviously wake up to a dirty house. Cleaning your mess before going to bed helps reduce the amount of work you have to wake up to in the morning.
You can ensure the utensils are all cleaned and the sofa is straightened before going to bed. Two minutes spent resetting your mess before going to bed, saves you a whole day’s work tomorrow.
