Nkaissery's sons will drink raw blood gushing from a bull

Living
 Andrew Nkaissery

More than 60 bulls and 200 goats will be slaughtered during the burial of the late Interior CS General (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery.

According to organisers, all the animals are being donated by the villagers as a way of thanking the family for their generosity to the community.

Traditional rituals will be conducted at his rural home at Ilbisil, with a sacred bull being slaughtered in honour of the general who was regarded as a Maasai political kingpin.

The sacred bull will be slaughtered by his Seuri agemates as his children watch after a session of blessings by elders as the site has already been identified.

The sons will have to drink the raw blood as it gushes from the slaughtered bull. Fat from the bull will be placed on tree branches and stored in a container.

The eldest son, assisted by elders, will be smeared with the fat all over his body, marking the end of an era for Nkaissery.

His Seuri agemates will play a major role in the burial on July 15, after the church has completed prayers.
