Egerton University, through its website and social media page has published a list of over 4,000 alumni who have defaulted on their school fees or are owed by the university and threatened to report them to the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

In the publication, Egerton University gave the former students a month to clear their balances with the university or face the CRB.

In the list seen by SDE, the defaulters’ arrears which span as far back as a decade run into the millions.

The decision by the University to list the defaulters has elicited mixed reactions from the public.

Lanet Mercy was not amused, “how can one graduate and be given clearance form if he/she has unpaid fees? Exam cards were also circulated to those who has cleared fees??? Just be serious.”

“That list is not correct. I wonder what happens if one proves it otherwise,” posed Kevin Guya.

Morei Orezo however held a different opinion, “Heheheee...Dawa Ya deni ni kulipa.”

If the University goes ahead with the threat, the affected individuals risk hefty penalties and lose eligibility to access credit from financial institutions.

CRB is mandated by law to exercise authority on behalf of the affected party in seeking claims from defaulters.
