It’s scary how we now depend on Google to cure our sicknesses

The power of ‘Mr Google’ is just simply amazing. Funny how we all depend on the internet to make most decisions. Life has just become easier with the internet.

For most people, when they fall sick, they just rush to Mr Google for consultation. They will check the symptoms and then buy medicine over the counter. Recently, a pal complained of “ulcer-like” pains in his lower chest and that he was also vomiting blood.

We were all scared. Everyone in the room was on the phone trying to look for a solution.

One girl shouted, “You shouldn’t give him milk! It doesn’t work for me.” I contended, “I don’t think it should be a problem. He definitely has GERD where his sphincter doesn’t close... (etc.).” The male friends were busy being silly, “Bro, you should definitely smoke a ciggy right now, that’s what you need!” they said.

That drove us nuts! “What kind of friends are you? I am telling you he needs to sit up take some milk, take Zolicid and he will be fine!” I insisted. “No, just take the tablet I gave you and the Zolicid and make sure tomorrow you go to the doctor. This is serious!” said my friend.

“You all need to stop arguing, I am the one with ulcers, which means I know what I am saying, alright!” he shouted us down.

Well, the poor patient did everything he was told by the ‘homemade’ doctors in the room (apart from smoking).

We all claimed having read an article online that recommended the best remedy for his condition.

The patient who had one-year experience of med school mentioned how doctors did the same in real life, they Google when they are stuck with a patient.

I couldn’t help but wonder, has it really come to this...that even our health is determined by Google?
