The multi-platinum music star, Nicki Minaj, will be the executive produce and appear in an ABC family comedy based on her life.
The single-camera, half-hour series will be shot in Queens, New York. ABC Family has already handed out a series commitment to the project set in the early 1990s.
The show is based on Minaj and her family’s immigration from Trinidad and will focus on her vibrant family and the personal and musical evolution that led to her eventual rise to stardom.
Selita Ebanks and Wesley Jonathan will play the parents of Nicki Minaj, while Ariana Neal will play a young Nicki Minaj.
It has not been disclosed what acting role Nicki Minaj will play in the TV series, but what has been confirmed is that the star will be wearing a lot of hats as writer, executive producer and actress.
However, this will not be Nicki Minaj’s first acting gig. The rapper’s other acting work includes voice gigs in Ice Age: Continental Drift and Steven Universe as well as a supporting role in The Other Woman alongside Cameron Diaz.
