Jeremy Clarkson insists he was NOT sacked by the BBC but simply dropped from Top Gear.

In his first interview since being axed as the show's presenter following his attack on producer Oisin Tymon, the star said he was busier than ever - despite being unemployed and hinted he could return to the beeb.

Chris Evans said: "James and Richard can go back to the BBC, that door is still open for them," to which Jeremy cut him off and said: "Well so can I, you know, I'm not sacked remember."

The DJ corrected himself and said he couldn't return to Top Gear after his TV bosses decided his contract could not be renewed.

Talking about leaving Top Gear, he said: "It was very much my baby, I worked on it all through the night and paid attention to it. You do feel there is a big whole which does need to be filled."

He said there are some "dreadful" people in the BBC but some incredibly talented colleagues.

Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are believed to be negotiating with a streaming service like Netflix or Amazon.

But Clarkson said he had just been "listening" to offers from broadcasters and added: "I'm just getting really good at tennis."

He revealed he will drive one last lap around the Top Gear track following a charity auction, which will be "emotional".
