Residents of Kyamuoso village in Kilungu District are still reeling in shock after a 60-year-old man hacked his son to death using a machete before being lynched by an angry mob.
The man, identified as Mutungi Kiuvu, on Monday afternoon boarded a motorbike and headed to Kilungu Secondary School where his 16-year-son schooled and fetched him on the pretext of attending to an urgent family event.
On reaching home, the father is said to have tied the teenager on the neck using a rope and then slashed him several times using a machete, killing him on the spot.
After killing his son, Mr Kiuvu went haywire and attempted to kill his brother who had intervened in the chaos in an attempt to save the youngster, after receiving a distress call from him.
Sensing danger from a mob that had gathered outside his house, Kiuvu tried to escape but was cornered by the incensed mob that beat him to death.
Ilima District Officer Samson Akachi, who arrived at the scene moments later, termed the incident as regrettable, adding that the man was suffering from mental illness.
Akachi said his office had received several complaints about the man, the latest being an attempt to rape his daughter.
Relatives of the family who spoke to The Standard said Kiuvu had chased away his wife.
