Three members of parliament will spend tonight in police cells awaiting appearances in court tomorrow. Assistant Minister and Kuria M-P DR. Wilfred Machage, Mount Elgon’s Fred Kapondi and Cherengany’s Joshua Kutuny were arrested following allegations of hate speech. The arrests came as leading ‘no’ campaigner and higher education minister, William Ruto was grilled by the national cohesion and integration commission over the same issue. At least fifteen members of parliament showed up at CID headquarters in solidarity with their colleagues. They accused the government of intimidating opponents of the proposed constitution.
