Man asks woman for Sh3,800 refund when she rejects him after their third date

It seems that the cost of swiping right isn’t just the risk of a rubbish date - but to be asked for a refund if it goes badly.

For one man the thought of wasting money was too much - so he asked for his date to refund him.

That's what happened to Alex Colboth, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, whose "match" asked that she pay for half of the cost of the three dates they've been on.

She shared a screengrab of the request on Twitter, with the caption: "It's the audacity for me."

In the messages, the man wrote: "Hi Alex, hope you're doing well. Would you mind letting me know what your Venmo is?

"The reason I ask is since you and I won't be seeing each other anymore, it's only fair to ask for equal payment from you for the dates we went on.

"I believe it was 3 separate times we went out to bars/restaurants where I paid for us both each time.

"I'd say Sh3,800 ($35) is more than fair for your food and drinks that I got during those dates. I view that as a fair girl, I hope you'll consider reimbursing me. Thanks!"

But Alex didn't appear sympathetic to the request, as she jokingly shared a gif of Boo from Monsters Inc falling asleep with the caption: "How I’m going to sleep tonight knowing I still have that Sh3,800 ($35)."

And she clarified that she had offered to pay on the dates - after people asked her on Twitter.

Her tweet went viral, with more 184,000 likes and sparked a huge debate on social media.

For the most part, people on Twitter appeared to agree with her.

One person replied: "Him asking for the dates to be split evenly isn't the issue here.

"It’s that he waited until AFTER he knew things wouldn’t continue to ask, so he wasn’t paying to be nice in the first place, he was paying with the expectation of some reward (sex, companionship, etc) which is weird."

Another said: "You dodged a bullet."

A third commented: "The responses to this thread are WILD. Dudes, either pay for the date with no expectations or ask to split the bill upfront.

"I have always done the former. No shame if you want to do the latter. But asking for money after things didn’t work out? That’s petty and ridiculous."
