Victoria Beckham maintains her lithe physique by dining on fish and vegetables.
But the pop singer turned fashion designer was forced to alter her strict diet after a visit to Lanserhof spa in Germany revealed that she had “off the scale” amount of toxic mercury in her blood.
The Spice Girl star, 46, was warned after tests, taken last year, that she needed to cut back on fish as it was leading dangerous levels of highly poisonous methylmercury.
A source told The Sun: “Victoria had off the scale levels of mercury. So doctors gave her a liver flush to help rid the body of toxins.
"She feels brilliant and is as lean and fit as ever.”
Fish, especially tuna, swordfish, king mackerel and marlin, as well as shellfish, contain methylmercury and this can be dangerous in high levels.
Mercury poisoning can lead to a metallic taste in the mouth, sickness and muscle weakness.

Victoria believes the key to flawless, glowing skin is getting the right amounts of fat.
So with this in mind, Victoria told last year that she eats between three and four avocados every single day.
Victoria insisted that the fruit helps her on the way to a luminescent complexion and told the Daily Telegraph: "It's not just about looking younger."
Calorie-packed avocados are rich in vitamins, fibre and healthy monounsaturated fats.
They also contain virtually no sugar.
It's not the first time Victoria has dished out some unusual beauty secrets.
She once admitted she likes to start the day by sipping on apple cider vinegar.
Accompanying a picture of a large bottle of the liquid, she advised fans: "Be brave! Two tbsp first thing on an empty tummy! x"
