Bursting common myths associated with makeup

Beauty

To help you determine fact from fiction, I'm bursting some common makeup myths below so that you can feel confident that you're doing the right thing when it comes to your beauty regime.

Makeup causes breakouts

False: Not true, poor hygiene causes breakouts. Mistakes like falling asleep with your makeup on, not cleaning your makeup brushes often enough and not knowing when to throw out older products will all cause your skin to break out.

Apply your concealer before your foundation:

False: The opposite is actually true. By applying your foundation first you will already cover up most of your blemish areas. Concealer is for the stubborn areas that cannot be covered with foundation. You will find that you save a lot of time in your makeup application by applying your concealer after your foundation.

Liner inside your eyes makes them look smaller

Truth: This is only the case if you're only applying it to your lower lid. When applied correctly -- to top and bottom -- and paired with a good shadow and volumising mascara, dark liner actually makes your eyes look more open and awake.

Pump your mascara for more product

False: Instead of pumping the mascara wand, try to twist it out of the tube. Pumping your mascara will introduce air into the tube, forcing in bacteria and causing it to become trapped. This habit can cause the mascara to dry out and break down faster than it normally would.

Waterproof mascara is better than regular mascara

False: Unless you are going to an event where you expect to shed tears of joy or going out to the beach in humid climate, stay away from waterproof mascara. The main reason for this is that waterproof mascara is much more difficult to wash out than regular mascara. In addition to this, do not sleep with your mascara on. This can lead to your eyelashes becoming brittle and prone to breakage.
